Meteorological instruments are placed in an enclosed area next to the hut, and the housekeepers are are also meteorologists (the Vukušić family). The hut also serves as the highest meteorological station in Croatia, with regular hourly measurements. This is a one-floor house with two dining rooms, a kitchen and sanitary facilities. MOUNTAIN HUT ZAVIŽAN (1594 m) is on the southern slope of Vučjak peak (1645 m) above steep meadows, with a view of the sea, the Zavižan valley, Veliki Zavižan and Hajdučki kukovi. Right above the parking place is the Zavižan mountain hut. Right before Zavižan there is a large parking place, and although the road continues further, traffic is not permitted. The most beautiful parts of the Velebit hiking trail are the area between Zavižan and Alan (Northern Velebit) and National Park Paklenica in Southern Velebit.
